Liverpool Make £12.5m Bid for Southampton’s Right Back, Clyne

Liverpool have made an improved £12.5m offer for Southampton’s right-back Nathaniel Clyne.

Last month, the Saints rejected a £10m bid from the Merseyside outfit for the England international.

Southampton are understood to be holding out for a £15m bid for the 24-year-old defender, who scored one of his two Premier League goals at Anfield this season and made 35 appearances for Ronald Koeman’s men.

Clyne, who joined Southampton from Crystal Palace in July 2012, has one year left at the St. Mary’s Stadium.

Liverpool released Glen Johnson, 30, this summer, prompting their interest in Clyne.

Should the transfer go through, he will become the fourth player to leave Southampton for the Reds, after Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren signed for a combined £50m last summer.

Liverpool have already signed Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino, defender Joe Gomez, midfielder James Milner, striker Danny Ings and goalkeeper Adam Bogdan.
