DStv billing problems explained

MultiChoice has apologised for billing errors affecting current and former subscribers, and has promised to sort out all issues.

Existing and former DStv subscribers recently complained about significant billing errors on their accounts, and MultiChoice has now offered an explanation and apology for the errors.

Issues ranged from people being overcharged, debit orders not going off and subscribers being cut off, and debit orders being reinstated against cancelled accounts.

Those affected took to online forums and social media to voice their displeasure and to find out if they were the only ones affected, while others wrote to MyBroadband to bring attention to the problem.

One former subscriber who saw a DStv debit order going off against their bank account said they cancelled their DStv subscription in 2013.

Another subscriber, whose subscription was cancelled a year ago, said DStv told him it would take 5–6 working days for the transaction to be reversed.

MultiChoice said a recent move to a new management system was at the heart of the billing issues.

“We recently upgraded our customer management system and some of our customers experienced billing errors,” said MultiChoice.

“We sincerely apologise for this error.” Customers will be refunded within the next few days, promised MultiChoice.
