Kalu and the APC decision

Orji Uzor Kalu loves his mother, no doubt. The business mogul and politician is ready to drum it into any ear that he is what he is because of the willingness and courage of his mother. But how far would that love for mother go to influence his decision, especially in the looming political decision he has to make?
In June when the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) admitted the national leader of the Reality Organisation, Chief Eunice Uzor Kalu as a frontline member of the party, the message was clear that the son would go the way of the mother even if the son has been having his lips sealed as has become the practice for him lately.
National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, had described Eunice Uzor Kalu as a courageous woman to have openly identified with APC and had been full of praises for the woman and her two sons when they visited the National Secretariat of the party.
Oyegun had gone further to say, the visit of Chief Eunice and her two sons to the party’s office was an indication in all uniqueness because it went to define the two generation of the Kalu clan. One, which was certainly the courage of the old, which has infiltrated into the entrepreneurship of the young, which the sons and the crops of the young South-easterners find their emergence, and of course, the business mogul belongs.
The chairman had said something about the old woman’s class and strength of character, which was a take home for study and examplification, while her son, the former House of Representative member, Nnanna Uzor Kalu, had said their journey to the party’s office was very simple, even though he did not indicate the magnitude of that simplicity. But some had said the visit of mother and sons to the national secretariat of the party was a signal of the family giving their complete allegiance to the party, especially in Abia State. With this open declaration by mother and children, can the business mogul continue to sit on the fence? So, it is unexpected that Orji Uzor Kalu would be the black sheep of the family.
True, his focus, in the meantime, is on FIFA, which many say if he would go for it and he emerges as the body’s president, what would happen to his political ambition? Certainly, he is going to return to politics someday and sometime in his life when the romance with the politics and business of soccer is laid to rest.
And he must need a political platform to engineer his political performance and ideas, which was once taunted as Orjist, a political ideology whose focus is based on the trueness of politics, service and the emancipation of his country’s people’s plight from poverty and illiteracy – and if the pragmatic businessman must be true to himself, he would have to agree with reason that to function adequately in that area, he would not be needing the platform of his minority political party, the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) to give him that magic wand. And if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has always disappointed him, there is only one option left to him: to be wise and smart enough to follow the green light his mother is indicating to him. Unless he is saying, he would be comfortable in the office of sporting politics, as against the politics of the generality of plight of his country’s people that is ever beckoning for pragmatic leadership.
And the time has to be now for the Abia Chief to tailor this particular decision with that of his other decisions since he has once competed on the turf of PPA as president of his country and lost, and the tendencies are that there would be a return. And there has to be a return if the people is to live with the reality of the country’s politics, albeit obnoxious, but also true, that the country is under the foolery of a rotational system and politically geographical dichotomy, and if the country would as well live in accordance with such foolery one could as well live with it to the cap.
The South-East, for now, has two prominent and vociferous politicians who would want to aspire to the presidency of their country. Others may have the thought to become, but they are certain to be blown away when the serious business of politicking starts. So these two, from that part of the country, are both towering figures and personalities that cannot be easily washed away.
One of them is already a member of the party, and those who are politically concerned think Orji Uzor Kalu should enlist in the APC as well. Could his indecision be hinged on the one reason Kalu is still holding his breath as regards his political party affiliation is centred on that individual’s membership?
Maybe he should not hold his breath for too long and go ahead to pick the party’s registration form since the PDP has proved to be a disappointing platform over the last 16 years and the PPA does not have the capacity to meet the political challenge of the moment in the midst of the two major political parties.
So, where does Kalu stand in this web of such political decision? He would need to follow the wisdom of his mother and consult with her if he had not done so, and ask his other siblings the reason for their decision, unless, yet again, he is saying he has had enough of his country’s politics, and he now thinks the place where he would be most relevant would be on the international arena, in soccer administration. In any case, some people think that the FIFA job is too small for him, considering his clout in national politics.
However, Kalu establishing himself in APC or not would depend on his political ambition, which would be pinned down to whether he is still politically ambitious to lead his country or if others would want him to switch camp from his PPA minority party, as his mother has done with her Reality Organisation to bring his influence and following to the party.
Well, the man has said he is going to be consulting with some party members to give vent to his decision, while many in that region of the South-East think 2019 may seem far away, whereas it is actually around the corner, and the decision to be politically relevant as a geographical or individual entity has to be now and not a second too late, as President Buhari has been described as a friend of the easterners, whose tenacity and courage are shared reflection in the same mirror, in the drive of the South-easterner’s crave for success.
