President Buhari To Probe GEJ

The Senate has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the former president, Goodluck Jonathan over the management and financial engagement of the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P).

The president through the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation had ordered the presidential committee and workers of SURE-P to close shop and submit a comprehensive report of its activities to the presidency.

Vanguard reports that the Senate pushed for the investigation after a debate on the implementation of the N5000 payment to unemployed youths. While this motion was supported by the senators from The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) their counterparts in the All Progressives Congress (APC) were against the implementation of the payment.

After the intervention of the senate president, Bukola Saraki, Senator Babajide Omoworare moved that President Buhari should investigate the SURE-P and that Jonathan should account for every money spent.

“I want to move that the immediate past government be made to account for every penny spent on SURE-P and other poverty alleviation programmes, and I so move, Mr. President,”

This motion was supported by many APC senators.

The former boss of SURE-P, Christopher Kolade revealed that he risigned his position because of the prevalent corruption going on in the scheme as it had been hijacked by politicians.
