Robert Pires has backed Thierry Henry has a potential candidate to succeed Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager.

The Gunners boss has been in situ since 1996, guiding the club to nine trophies during his nine-year tenure.

Henry has been a firm supporter of the his former boss whenever his position at the club has come under question, and is currently taking his coaching badges while being involved with the club’s Under-19 setup.


Pires played alongside Henry in Wenger’s infamous ‘Invicibles’ of the 2003/4 campaign, and the former France international believes his compatriot could be the right man to take over the reins at the Emirates.

"Can I see Thierry Henry taking over Arsene Wenger? Yes, why not?” he told Omnisport.

"He is working on his badges. He is involved with the U19 team at Arsenal academy. He is preparing himself step by step,” he continued. “He wants to get his badges.”
