They may be fierce rivals on the pitch - but Cristiano Ronaldo was on hand to help Lionel Messi and Neymar at the Ballon d'Or ceremony last week.

The trio were all up for the main award of being named the world's best player for 2015, with Barcelona superstar Messi eventually winning his fifth gong.

Ronaldo finished second behind the Argentine, with Brazilian Neymar coming third.
When asked about his experience at the gala, Real Madrid's record scorer joked about acting as a translator for the South American pair, neither of whom speak English.

"We got closer, but we have always had a good relationship," he said.

"Before the gala, on the stage, I was a translator for Neymar and him [Messi].

"I told them they would have to pay me."
