Elneny was busy on Saturday

It’s almost time to hear from Arsene Wenger this morning.

In the meantime, here’s an interesting breakdown of Mohamed Elneny’s Arsenal debut on Saturday.

He was a busy boy against Burnley, getting all over the field and keeping things simple.

Debuchy and Gbabry heading out on loan?

Mathieu Debuchy is hoping to finalise a loan deal to Aston Villa on deadline day.

Debuchy trained with Arsenal this weekend with his future still uncertain because Villa have struggled to reach an agreement on the terms of his loan.

Villa will need to find a £1m-plus loan fee and cover his £60,000-a-week wages but the deal is believed to be close.

The sky high price has held up the deal but Villa are hoping that Arsenal will compromise.

Deadline Day and Chil(well)

Could Leicester’s young full-back Ben Chilwell be heading to Arsenal today?

The Gunners are pushing hard to land Chilwell and have made a fresh move this week after having a £3m bid knocked back last summer.

North London rivals Spurs have now also registered their interest after getting a close up look at left-back Chilwell this month.

Chilwell, who has broken into the England Under-21 setup this season, started both of Leicester’s FA Cup ties against Spurs after being recalled from his loan spell at Huddersfield.

Iwobi should play for England

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger claims England have missed a trick by allowing Alex Iwobi slip through the net.

Arsenal teenager Iwobi, 19, shone in their FA Cup win over Burnley and Wenger believes he has got a big future at the Emirates as one of their brightest young prospects.

But Iwobi - the nephew of former Nigeria and Bolton star Jay Jay Okocha - has pledged his future to Nigeria even after representing England at under-16, u-17s and u-18s level. Gunners boss Wenger said: “I think he’s one England have missed because he plays for Nigeria now. He should play for England.”

Calum Chambers going nowhere

Don’t worry Arsenal fans, Calum Chambers won’t be going anywhere today.

Versatile Chambers made a whirlwind start to his Arsenal career after his £16m move from Saints in July 2014 and even won three caps under England boss Hodgson.

But in the last year or so, he has lost his first team place, fallen out of Hodgson’s reckoning and seen John Stones of Everton eclipse him as England’s brightest defensive prospect.

But the 21-year-old insists he has no regrets about joining the Londoners and says there is no chance of him leaving on loan, as has been mooted.

“I believe it was the right move. I’m really happy here,” said Chambers. “I’m pleased with how it’s all going.

“I’m learning in the background. I’m not playing as much, but you can’t let yourself get frustrated. You’ve just got to stay focused — keep your eye on the goal, concentrate on yourself. That’s the key to it.

“I’m just concentrating on getting games, training hard and thinking each game as it comes, trying to get myself in the squad and in the team. I’m trying to get myself stronger in training and things like that.

Wenger Says

Arsene Wenger will be here at 9am for his pre-game presser for tomorrow’s game against Southampton.

Will he have an update on any potential incoming transfers?
We’re hoping he will possible confirm the arrival of two Nigerian wonderkids who look to have signed for the Gunners.

All will be revealed in a couple of hours.

Rosicky out for six weeks

Tomas Rosicky is out for six weeks after suffering a devastating injury setback on his comeback.

Veteran midfielder Rosicky made his first appearance of the season as a 71st minute substitute in the FA Cup win over Burnley.

But Rosicky - who had not played after groin surgery in the summer - damaged a thigh muscle after coming on and will now undergo tests and scans to establish the extent of the injury.

Could that tempt Wenger into the market today?

Loan rangers rather than permanent moves

Arsenal’s transfer window so far has been dominated by the introduction of Mohamed Elneny, a January signing from Basel.

The defensive midfielder made his debut in the FA Cup over the weekend - a performance boss Arsene Wenger said was “exceptional”.

But that could well be it for the Gunners in this window when it comes to incoming players.

However, there are question marks over where Mathieu Debuchy and Serge Gnabry will end up by the close of play today.

Both are hoping for loan moves, so we’ll be keeping an eye on that.

And we’ll hear from boss Arsene Wenger this morning ahead of tomorrow night’s match with Southampton.

Keep up to date with the latest here throughout the day.
