Did Orezi prophesy bread hawker’s rise to stardom?

It is commonly said that musicians are prophets. It may be true. And Orezi may have prophesied the classic Cinderella story of bread-hawker-photo-bomber turned model, Olajumoke Orisagunna.

You know the story already. It broke the Nigerian axis of the internet late last week.

Star photographer Ty Bello was photographing Tinie Tempah somewhere on the streets of Lagos when Olajumoke, by sheer serendipity, walked onto one of the scenes.


She had a tray of bread on her head and a picture of her and her ‘market’ alongside Tempah found its way into the pile of images collected from the shoot.


The photographer saw Olajumoke’s potential and unusually, she looked for her and found her.

To cut the long story short, Olajumoke landed her first job as a model.

Despite hardly speaking any English or having a university degree, she made it to the cover of THISDAY Style. There are now a whole lot of opportunities before her. from Bread hawker to model

Now here is where ‘Orezi the prophet’ comes in. Do you remember Shuperu? Yes, Orezi’s song in which he featured Davido.

You can ignore the intro and the first verse, just check out the hook:

The hook is in Yoruba, the language Olajumoke is most comfortable with.

The first line says, Ayé ò pé méjì, jệjệ mò’n ṣe fàájì, [You only live once, I am enjoying peacefully

The second line of the hook is the ‘prophesy’…

Ayé ò pé méjì, [You only live once]

ọmọ ìya oní breadi … [The child, the bread seller]

Má ròpé torí èní ò da, Olúwa nísolá [Do not think because today is not good, It is God that performs wonders]

Now is it just another coincidence or did Orezi prophesy it? Olajumoke Orisagunna
