D’Tigers forward Abdulwahab Alade Aminu has hailed Nigeria’s 96-92 victory over South American champions Argentina in Monday’s exhibition game in the USA ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
Aminu in a chat with Daily Trust yesterday, said the result underlined the team’s resolve to take the world by storm in the upcoming Games in South America.
“It’s an amazing result and one which shows where we are going as a team and by the Grace of God we’ll fulfill our potential as a team in Rio.” The Israel based player said.
The game which was played at the Thomas and Mack centre in Las Vegas saw the William Voigts’ team get their pound of flesh from the Argies who had beaten Nigeria 71-49 at the Stankovic Cup earlier this month.
Nocioni finished as top scorer in the game with 18 points just as Ike Diogu, followed by Laprovittola who had 17 points and Scola 15.
Former UNLV guard, Michael Umeh, had a successful homecoming, playing for the D’Tigers as he scored nine points and he hopes to make the final shortlist when Nigeria face Team USA on Aug. 1 at the Toyota Center.
The Nigerians, who are the FIBA Africa Zone champions, still have to prune down their current squad from 16 to 12.
