He may not have seen everything go his way in France so far, but Cristiano Ronaldo has shown scoring isn't everything, taking the bull by the horns in his quest for Euro 2016 glory.

Footage has emerged of the Real Madrid star ordering his compatriot Joao Moutinho to take a penalty in the quarter-final victory over Poland last week, a sign of the player's growing maturity.

The Portugal captain only had 19 touches of the ball in the last eight clash at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille, but he has adapted his role in the side having previously shown frustration at the shortcomings of his less able team-mates.

Despite another subdued performance for Fernando Santos' men last Thursday, Ronaldo put aside his own failings to issue a rallying cry to his players ahead of the shoot-out, calling on another experienced member of the squad to step forward.

The 31-year-old can be seen telling Monaco midfielder Joao Moutinho to come froward as one of the country's five penalty kick takers, shouting: 'Hey! Hey! Come kick, come kick. Come.

'You hit them well! If we lose then (expletive) it! Be strong! Come on! Be strong! You hit them well! Come on!

After Moutinho had listened to his captain, Ronaldo tells him, 'It's in God's hands now.' The faith shown in him was repaid as the midfielder duly despatched Portugal's third penalty in the shoot-out.

The revealing clip comes on the same day the former Manchester United forward posted a picture on Instagram of him enjoying a game of darts with Ricardo Quaresma ahead of the semi-final with Wales in Lyon.

While Ronaldo is never one to shy from the limelight, it is Quaresma who has been writing the headlines for his country in the knock-out stages after his extra-time winner against Croatia was followed up by his decisive penalty in the shoot-out against Poland.

The pair trained their eyesight with a round of darts at their training base in Marcoussis on the outskirts of Paris before the squad travelled further south to Lyon on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Barcelona legend Hristo Stoichkov has joked that Ronaldo will win the Ballon d’Or due to his good looks, despite having an indifferent tournament so far in France.

‘[Antoine] Griezmann is blowing everyone away,’ he said. ‘But they’ll probably give it to Cristiano Ronaldo again for being guapo (handsome)!’
