The Cocoa Master Meets Koko Master
The minister of agriculture and rural development, Dr Akinwumi Adesina (the cocoa master) yesterday hosted Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo alias D’Banj, the koko Master, appointing him Nagropreneurs ambassador.
The Nagropreneurs ambassador makes D’banj the Nigeria Agricultural Youth Ambassador with the message to attract Nigerian youths to modern agriculture though the use of modern agricultural methods while helping them to see agriculture as a business.
Visiting on the platform of the ONE.orgCampaign, D’Banj said “If the nation fails to focus on agriculture, everyone will end up dying of hunger, adding that “if more focus can be given to agriculture, poverty can be eradicated.”
Speaking on the activities of the campaign, Africa’s director for ONE, Dr Sipho Moyo, said ONE.org had launched a new initiative with the theme “Do Agric, It Pays” adding that “investing in agriculture pays as it can help lift 85 million people out of extreme poverty by 2024, provide jobs and boost the continent’s economy.”
Recalling that African leaders in 2003 had pledged to invest 10% of their countries’ annual budgets in agriculture, only eight of them had kept to that promise while 46 countries including Nigeria continue to linger.”
“Africa doesn’t just have the potential to feed itself – it has the potential to help feed the world as 70% of African workers already earn a living from agriculture. Better irrigation, farming equipment, storage, market access and women’s land rights could mean brighter future for millions,” she said.
ONE.org is a campaign and advocacy organisation that seeks to raise public awareness and work with political leaders to combat AIDS and preventable diseases, increase investments in agriculture and nutrition, and demand greater transparency in poverty-fighting programmes.
