The Presidency yesterday reacted to a newspaper publication over the alleged plans by the wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan to install governors in Bauchi, Bayelsa and Rivers states, describing it as spurious.
It has therefore called on the said states to ignore what it called the mischief makers, who are bent on disrupting the peace prevailing in those states.
A statement signed by Ayo Adewuyi, a ‎Media Assistant, Office of the First Lady, stated that the First Lady, does not interfere with the Peoples Democratic Party’s selection nor election process, insisting that the Supervising Minister of Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, as the leader of PDP in Rivers State, enjoys the follower-ship of the people of the state and that the First Lady was solidly behind him.
It also described as mischievous the insinuation that  the the First lady was working in favour of a governorship aspirant ‎from the riverine areas of Rivers State which may be clearly against what the people want.
The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to the news story in a newspaper today captioned “ 2015: Patience Jonathan plans to install three Governors” insinuating that the First Lady is set to play godmother to three alleged aspiring governorship candidates in Bauchi, Bayelsa and Rivers states.
While we consider this a figment of the imagination of the writers of the spurious story, it is also expedient to state clearly that the First Lady does not meddle in the affairs and selection process of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Consequently, there is no way she can dictate or install anybody into political offices. In the case of Rivers State, the First Lady wishes to state categorically that the Supervising Minister of Education, Chief Nyesom Wike is the leader of PDP in Rivers State and he enjoys the followership of the people of the state. The First Lady is solidly behind Chief Wike.
“The people of Rivers State are also solidly behind Chief Wike and are prepared to follow him. “It is therefore mischievous to insinuate that Mrs. Jonathan is working to ensure that the governorship candidate comes from one of the riverine areas of Rivers State which may not be where the people are going.”
