Jega INEC Crisis in Anambra community

A political crisis is brewing in Agauta 11 Constituency in Anambra State following moves by a group known as Aguata North Democratic Forum (ANDF), to recall Ikem Uzoezie, the lawmaker representing the constituency, from the State House of Assembly.

The group has already written a notification letter to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, through the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Awka, Prof. Chukwuemeka Onukaogu.

Addressing reporters in Igboukwu at the weekend, the group, led by its Chairman, Ben Obiapuna said that their resolve to recall was not negotiable as he was no longer doing what he was sent to the House to do.

ANDF also noted that it was because of Uzoezie’s undue interference that the town failed to benefit from the Obi administration’s package to town unions because Igboukwu had no president general.

Listing a catalogue of what it considers the sins of Uzoezie, the group accused him of exaggerating his achievements, describing his action as tantamount to playing politics with the people of Igboukwu.

But reacting to the development, the lawmaker in a chat with Daily Sun described members of the group as rabble rousers. He said that Igboukwu community, where the group operates from, is just one community out of eight others and 11 wards he is representing in the House of Assembly.

Uzoezie also described the group as members of opposition party just making noise to attract undue attention. He reeled out his achievements  to include  roads, buildings, library and other projects he either attracted or executed in his constituency.

But in its reaction, the ANDF said the projects claimed by Uzoezie were not attracted by him.

It stated that the reservoir, which the lawmakers claimed to have built, one of the projects claimed by Uzoezie, was built in 1959 by one Major Azike, long before Uzoezie was born, stressing that “what Uzoezie did was merely to repaint it.
