An anaesthetist has been suspended for allegedly sexting and sending photographs of his exposed genitals while involved in surgery including caesarean births.
The hospital doctor sent more than 250 texts containing sexual innuendo during complex procedures including 45 messages over a 90 minute period during one stomach operation, an investigation found.
Arthur K Zilberstein compromised patient safety with his “preoccupation with sexual matters” from April to August 2013, while working in Seattle, Washington state health authorities reported on Monday.
In one message he said: "I’m hella busy with C sections.” In another it is claimed he invited his girlfriend to come to the hospital and told her he would let her into the doctors’ lot so she wouldn’t have to pay for parking.
He is also accused of sending a picture to a patient of himself in surgical scrubs showing his genitals. In another text he wrote: “Oh. And my partner walked in as I was pulling up my scrubs. I’m pretty sure he caught me.”

Zilberstein, who has practised since 1995, worked at the city's Swedish Medical Center. It said in a statement: "Once we learned that the State had suspended this physician’s medical licence, the physician’s Medical Staff membership and privileges were immediately suspended. We just recently learned of these allegations and are conducting our own internal review of the physician, who is not directly employed by Swedish."
Zilberstein has 20 days to respond to the charges and request a hearing. His licence remains suspended until the matter is resolved.
