2015 AFCON QUALIFIER : Echiejile, Obasi return for Congo, South Africa

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) yesterday released a list of 23 players invited for next month’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the Red Devils of Congo and South Africa’ Bafana Bafana on September 6 and 10 respectively.

Lille of France first choice goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, tops the list with Monaco of France defender, Elderson Echiejile, also listed after he was dropped from Nigeria’s squad to the last World Cup in Brazil due to a last minute injury he sustained at training.

Also making a return to the Super Eagles since the 2010 World Cup in South Africa is Germany-based attacking pearl, Chinedu Obasi and Nosa Igiebor who could not make the final cut for this year’s World Cup in Brazil.

Others from the Brazil 2014 World Cup squad include goalkeepers Austin Ejide and Chigozie Agbim, defenders Efe Ambrose and Kenneth Omeruo, Godfrey Oboabona, Azubuike Egwuekwe and Juwon Oshaniwa, midfielders Mikel Obi, Ogenyi Onazi Michael Babatunde and Ramon Azeez and forwards- Ahmed Musa, Emmanuel Emenike and Uche Nwofor.

Also on the list are Nnamdi Oduamdi and Joel Obi, both of who failed to make the last cut to the World Cup in Brazil while Hull city of England striker, Omatsone Aluko and the home-based trio of Kunle Odunlami, Gbolahan Salami and Christian Osaguona complete the list.

Conspicuously missing from the list are the duo of Osaze Odewingie and Michael Ucheboh. Both strikers were in the Super Eagles squad that featured for Nigeria at the last World Cup in Brazil.

Nigeria will host Congo at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, Cross River State on September 6. Congo was restored to the race to next year’s Africa Nations Cup in Morocco after its conqueror, Rwanda, was found guilty of fielding an ineligible player. Four days after the match against the Red Devils of Congo, the Eagles will travel to Cape Town to keep a date with the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
