Dejected: Ozil trudges off after being hooked in Dortmund

Paul Scholes has questioned Arsene Wenger's use of German World Cup winner Mesut Ozil, declaring it "no use" playing him on the left flank.

The £42.5million schemer has come in for criticism following a latest no-show performance in a Gunners shirt, with the likes of Michael Ballack questioning why he is struggling to find his best form.
But former United midfielder Scholes - once forced to forage in a left-sided role for England by Sven-Goran Eriksson - believes that it is the positional change which has seen Ozil moved to the flanks, which is causing the problem and wasting the playmaker's talents.

CROSS: Why won't Arsene Wenger use Ozil as a No.10?

"I admired Mesut Ozil as a player at Real Madrid but it is no use playing him wide," explained Scholes in his column with the London Evening Standard.

"He is not interested in defending and he needs to be in the centre, among good quality players who get the best out of him.

"He has that languid style which makes it look like he isn’t trying. I am sure that isn’t the case but he is struggling to find his form and he is too good a player to waste."
