Did you know that Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet paid the care home fees for the last survivor of Titanic?

You may be thinking this human Earth isn’t all that and a bag of chips, but actually: it is. It is the best. Why is it the best? Because Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet teamed up to make sure the last few years of the remaining Titanic survivor’s life was as comfortable as possible by paying her care home fees.

Millvina Dean, who sadly died in 2009 aged 97, had been living in a nursing home in Southampton for her last three years since breaking her hip, but had been struggling to pay the bill.

In October 2008 she even had to sell off some of her Titanic mementoes to raise enough money to stay in the home, including a letter sent to her mum from the Titanic Relief Fund and a suitcase given to the young family when they arrived on a rescue boat in New York.

But then Kate and Leo got involved in the setting up of a special fund to help take care of Millvina’s fees, donating $20,000 between them.

Titanic director James Cameron and singer Celine Dion also donated $10,000 each to the fund, helping to ensure the elderly woman could be kept comfortable until the end of her life.

Millvina was only two months old when the ‘unsinkable’ cruise liner struck an iceberg and sank on the night of 14 April 1912 and was the youngest passenger onboard.

She and her mother managed to escape, despite being third class passengers, but her dad died when the ship sank and he was never recovered.

If that hasn’t given you some Monday feels, you have a heart of pure stone.
