FG has no budget for online registration —NYSC

In reaction to the controversies trailing the N4,000 levy placed on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) online registration, the scheme’s governing board, at the weekend, stated that the Federal Government has no budget for this purpose.

This came as the board gave its support for the online registration initiative.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja at the launching of four coaster buses donated to the scheme by stakeholders, the Chairman, Governing Board, Chief Godom Bozimo, said the responsibility of corps members to register is not the duty of the government as they only become the responsibility of the government after they have registered.

He maintained that the levy was small compared to the amount prospective corps members spend to travel to and from school to get their call up letters.

Bozimo submitted that the board supports the initiative as it provides more advantages for prospective corps members.

Earlier, the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Johnson Olawumi, said the motive behind provision of the buses was to improve staff welfare.

In his words: “how much will it cost you to send your ward from one part of the country to another to collect call-up letter?

“N4,000 is so little compared to what parents spend now and the Federal Government does not have a budget for that.
