Fast and Furious 7: Wiz Khalifa's music video is a touching tribute to Paul Walker

"We knew we didn’t want people leaving the theatre sad," a Universal exec said of the song choice

Wiz Khalifa's new music video See You Again has been praised as a touching tribute to the late actor and a fitting end to the film.

The track, which features Charlie Puth and appears on the Fast & Furious 7 film soundtrack, was shared on Vin Diesel's Facebook page and a day later it had been viewed more than 28 million times.

As well as featuring clips of Walker playing Brian O'Connor, it also includes the tragic star's final scenes.

Universal Pictures' president of music Mike Knoblock said they chose that song because they didn't want people leaving the 'theatre sad'.

“Once it was clear that that’s the [film’s] structure - the cast saying goodbye to Paul’s character - we put it out to writers that the song had to be earnest and celebratory. We knew we didn’t want people leaving the theatre sad.”

The seventh installment in the franchise brought in a record-breaking $143.6m (£96.1m) during its opening weekend, beating the likes of last year's Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier.

Its earnings make it the 9th largest opening weekend of all time, and the top earning non-superhero movie of all time.

"This is a bittersweet installment in the franchise. Walker's passing made this movie more intriguing for people who hadn't seen some of the installments," said Phil Contrino, BoxOffice.com chief analyst.
"It raised awareness and its success is a tribute to him."
