President seeks Senate’s nod for N299.5b NDDC budget

Also, House of Representatives has approved a total N60, 258, 397,000 billion as 2015 budget for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
From the budget sum, N16, 242, 056, 000 billion is for recurrent expenditure.
This is against the backdrop of the Commission’s projected revenue profile of N16.1billion for the year 2015 under the summary of the breakdown.
According to details, the total sum of N16, 242, 056 will cover sub heads such as; “Establishment Cost, Staff and other Costs, Travel Cost, Operational Costs, Administrative Costs and Bank Charges.”
In a letter read to senators at the commencement of yesterday ‘s session by the Senate President David Mark, Jonathan said “the proposed budget is made up of personnel expenditure of N16.133 billion, recurrent expenditure of N10.423 billion, internal capital expenditure of N1.879 billion and capital projects (Development) expenditure of N271.089 billon.”
The budget is to be funded with N300.100 billion to be drawn from Federal Government of N70 billion, oil companies’ contribution of N160 billion, ecological funds of N40 billion, unpaid arrears of Federal government worth N20 billion, revenue brought forward of N10 billion as well as other internally realised income of N100 million.
Also yesterday, Mark declared that the timely acceptance of defeat by President Jonathan saved Nigeria from a possible crisis and catastrophe.
Welcoming the senators from the Easter recess, Mark also congratulated President-elect, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari for his victory at the March 28, presidential election.
Mark said:”I would like to commend the maturity and sportsmanship displayed by President Jonathan, who willingly conceded defeat and immediately congratulated Buhari , even before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result. That singular act saved us from a possible crisis and catastrophe.
The President’s action added value to the consolidation of democracy in our land, raised the benchmark of peaceful democratic transition and consequently, set a new democratic template in our continent notorious for her infamous sit-tight leaders.
I also extend my warm felicitation to Buhari.
The President-elect has extended a hand of fellowship to President Jonathan and his team. He has also followed it up with conciliatory statements that further reinforce the unity and peace of our society.
“I would equally like to commend Nigerians for their comportment before, during and after the elections. By this action, we have proved to the world that Nigeria has laid a solid foundation for democracy to thrive.”
