Mourinho offers Moses Chelsea lifeline

Nigeria and Chelsea winger, Victor Moses, looks set to remain with the reigning English Premier League champions after impressing Blues’ manager, Jose Mourinho, in Thursday’s 4-2 loss to New York Red Bulls.

Moses has spent the last two Premier League campaigns on loan at Liverpool and Stoke City respectively and has been linked with a return to the Britannia Stadium for the 2015/16 campaign, while recent reports have also stated that the 24-year-old could be included in a deal to bring Everton defender, John Stones, to Stamford Bridge.

However, Mourinho has admitted that he was impressed by Moses’ second half performance in the loss to New York and is keen to use the Nigerian’s Premier League experience for his side’s defence of the EPL title.

Mourinho, who is also looking forward to fielding Moses against Paris Saint-Germain in the Blues’ next friendly match, said: “He’s strong, he’s an experienced guy, he knows the Premier League well, he’s fast, he’s aggressive.

“Okay, he has to learn how to play with us obviously. But I’m happy with him this week, I’m happy with his 45 minutes.

“The next match he’ll have 45 more minutes and let’s see what happens. Victor has had an evolution in the last couple of years.”

Moses signed for Chelsea from Wigan Athletic in 2012, scoring 10 goals in 43 appearances in his first season, but departed on loan following Mourinho’s return to the London club in 2013.

He scored twice in 22 appearances during his time at Liverpool, and picked up four goals in 23 appearances for Stoke last season.
