DSS uncovers IS cell in Kano, arrests 8 suspects

The Department of Security Service (DSS) in Kano State Command yesterday arrested suspects involved in the creation of Islamic State (IS) training cells.
Parading the suspects yesterday, the state director of the DSS, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Charanchi, the suspects were arrested on their way to some African countries including Libya. He said those arrested were from Kogi state.
Chiranchi also paraded five suspects involved in kidnapping and car snatching offences. They are Umar Ali Mainasara, Ali Muhammad, Auwalu Muhammad and Habibu Haladu.
He added that when interrogated, the suspects led the officials of the service to the hideouts of other suspects including the Nigerien gunrunner, Sulaiman Magaji.
He said also arrested are Ibrahim Sulaiman a.k.a Malam Ibrahim, Emmanuel Egbon a.k.a Emeka, Moses Okoye, Kabiru Salisu.
The director said while Ali Muhammad was arrested in Zaria, Kaduna State, Kabiru Salisu was nabbed while counting the monies they stole from the office of a business mogul, Alhaji Abdulsamad Isyaka Rabi’u.
“The monies were meant for Zakka. But Kabiru Salisu being a servant at Alhaji Isyaka Rabi’u house, who knows much about the family, used that opportunity and connived with his gang members and stole the money at Abdulsamad’s office,” he said.
He said the same gang also attacked the residence of Hajiya Amina Isyaka Rabi’u where they carted away a car, cash and some gold and diamond jewellery.
Charanchi said they recovered four pistols, among them those used by the Nigerien security operatives allegedly supplied to the gang by Sulaiman Magaji.
Other items recovered from them include a Pump Action gun, 37 rounds of 9mm ammunitions and a vehicle.
One of the suspects, Sulaiman Ibrahim, said: “I have participated in two robbery operations; one at Goron Dutse and the other at Rijiyar-Lemo.”
