Senator Kashamu raises alarm over possible arrest

Kashamu, a billionaire and major sponsor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alleges a grand plot to either abduct or assassinate him – The senator from Ogun state has been neck-deep in a drug allegation scandal with many believing that he is wanted in the US – The senior legislator is raising the alarm and calling on his family, friends and Nigerians to be aware his life is in danger Prince Buruji Kashamu, the senator representing Ogun east senatorial district at the National Assembly, has revealed plans by some unnamed people to assassinate him. He also asked his family and Nigerians to be aware that people from the government are after him. Kashamu has been having a drug-related case hanging on his neck and is widely believed to be wanted in the United States, but he has often maintained he is innocent and that he is only being persecuted.  Kashamu, in a statement in Lagos, said he was sure the NDLEA had plans to abduct him. He said some top people in the NDLEA had strategised to either abducted him, attack on the streets or at a social function. Vanguard reports that Kashamu wondered why anyone would want him arrested or killed when he enjoys a his rights. He also wondered why any legitimate body would resort to crude tactics and self-help at a time the country had left dictatorship. “I do not know what I have done to them that they want to do as if Nigeria is a Banana Republic. If anyone thinks he has a case against me, he should approach the courts and allow the rule of law to prevail. “I urge the masses and Nigerians in general to help me beseech the Almighty Allah who has been my help and shield to continue to protect and guide me from all manners of evil machinations. They should not kill me for my family and the thousands of Nigerians who depend on me for their daily living. “Politics should not be a do-or-die affair. I will always say and stand by the truth in the interest of the masses. “I will always rise above primordial sentiments and selfish interest in all my dealings, in and out of politics,” Kashamu said. Some months ago, Kashamu was kept under house arrest for many days in an attempt to get him arrested for possible extradition. He later secured a court injunction to stop the action against him. Almost on a daily basis in Nigeria, the NDLEA announces arrests of drug peddlers. For example, the NDLEA stated on Tuesday, June 21 that it apprehended 8,778 drug traffickers in the whole of last year. The breakdown of the confiscated hard drugs were as follows: Cannabis 871,480.32kg, psychotropic substances 30,652.93kg, ephedrine is 785.10kg, methamphetamine 410.82kg, cocaine 260.47kg, heroin 30.09kg and amphetamine 4.83kg.
