Ukraine appoint Andriy Shevchenko as manager

Shevchenko’s task begins with a World Cup qualifier against Iceland Chelsea former striker Andriy Shevchenko has been appointed head coach of Ukrainian national team and will lead them for the next two years.The former AC Milan goal machine took over from Mykhalo Fomenko after a disappointing campaign at the just concluded Euro 2016 tournament in France. Shevchenko was assistant coach to Fomenko at the tournament in France, but has now been promoted to the role of head coach. Shevchenko and the coaching crew at Euro 2016 The 2004 Ballon d’Or winner will be working alongside Mauro Tassotti, Andrea Maldera and Raul Riancho all through the 2018 World Cup qualifiers and could get a two-year extension based on performance. The 39-year-old had 111 caps scoring 84 goals and captained his country to their first World Cup participation in 2006 in Germany also calling it quits in 2012. Ukraine’s World Cup 2018 qualification campaign begins with a home match against the high flying Iceland in September and will also be playing Croatia, Turkey, Finland and Kosovo in Europe’s Group I.Shevchenko and the coaching crew at Euro 2016
