Prince Harry and Cressida Bonas split up after two years together

The break-up comes just a month after Cressida joined Harry at one of his first official engagements.

Though, in the last month, Harry and Cressy, as she is known to her friends, have hardly been seen out together.

Harry enjoyed a holiday in Botswana without her just a couple of weeks ago.

The news of their split was first announced by US showbiz magazine People.

Since the story broke, various Palace sources have confirmed the break-up but it's understood the decision was "amicable" and "they remain the best of friends".

It came the same day that Harry's brother William celebrated his anniversary with Kate.

Following his split from Cressida, Harry is back to being one of the world's most eligible bachelors.

When asked if she'd make the move to the UK, Katy Perry told Grazia: "‘I love beans on toast, the monarchy and the countryside.

When asked (pre-Tre) if she was single on The Graham Norton Show, Cheryl smiled and said: “But I would consider Prince Harry. Call me.”

The model told a US telly show: "I'm waiting for my proposal [from Harry]. I keep writing. I think he knows how obsessed I am.

Harry and Cressida are due as guests at Guy Pelly's wedding - a close friend of both Harry and William - at Memphis Polo club in the US this Saturday.

According to The Sun, Cressida has now pulled out of the trip.

A source close to the couple said the split was "very amicable".

The couple had been dating for two years after being first introduced by Princess Eugenie.

There has been no official comment on Prince Harry and Cressida Bonas's split.

Indeed, the last tweet posted from Clarence House featured a photo of Harry meeting injured servicemen at Tedworth House in Wiltshire.

Newly-single Harry has plenty of admirers from across the Pond, it seems....

In October 2013, Cressida appeared on the front cover of Tatler, with the society magazine revealing the "20 things you need to know about Cressida Bonas" - among them: "If you are drinking with Cressy, offer to buy her a rum, straight up. That's how she rolls. Hard."

When she is embarrassed, she is said to remark "cringe de la cringe" and her worst habit is reportedly daydreaming.

In 2013, she was placed 12th in The Tatler List - summarised by the publication as a list of "all the people who matter" - and described as "always smiling, often dancing".

Speculation about their relationship soared in March 2014 after Cressida joined Harry at one of his official engagements for the first time.

They sat together and embraced in the stands at Wembley Arena at a We Day UK charity event.

Contrasting greatly with Kate Middleton's first real foray into the limelight - smartly dressed complete with hat and gloves to watch William's formal Sandhurst passing out parade - Cressida's appearance was relaxed and casual - suggesting this royal couple was more than content to do things to their own liking.

But, for now, they have decided to go their separate ways, retaining their friendship - as royal watchers wait to see if this really is the end of a potential Princess Cressida.

Harry and Cressida are said to have been introduced by the Prince's cousin and Cressida's friend Princess Eugenie - although they have moved in the same upper class circles for a number of years.

They began dating around May 2012 - reportedly getting together at The Valley festival on friend Arthur Landon's Hampshire estate.

They holidayed on Sir Richard Branson's Caribbean Necker island for Sam Branson's birthday in the summer of 2012.

But Cressida was reportedly scared off shortly after by the intensity of the press interest when Harry was pictured naked playing a game of strip billiards in Las Vegas.

Soon after, the Prince headed to Afghanistan for a tour of duty and Harry and Cressida were reunited on his return, setting off for a ski break with Eugenie, Beatrice, Sarah, Duchess of York and the Duke of York.

Harry and Cressida were spotted hugging on the slopes.

A summer of festivals and gigs in 2013 saw the pair spending more and more time together, including a weekend at the Queen's private Sandringham retreat in Norfolk.

Rumours of an engagement started to surface just 18 months after they began dating.

Cressida is said to find the Sloane scene in London dull, preferring live music and dancing for her nights out.

At her sister's wedding in South Africa in March 2010, Cressida serenaded Isabella with George Gershwin's Love Is Here to Stay, causing the bride to burst into tears and bury her head under the table.

Cressida's childhood was split between the stately home Hinton Ampner in Hampshire and her father's home in King's Lynn, Norfolk.

Summers were often spent in St Tropez.

She won a sports scholarship to Prior Park College, a boarding school in Bath, and also trained for three years at the Royal Ballet School.

She later attended £30,000 a year Stowe School in Buckinghamshire.

After a gap year as a ski instructor, she headed to Leeds to study dance for three years, where Harry's former girlfriend Chelsy Davy also studied at university.

She is the daughter of renowned Old Harrovian businessman Jeffrey Bonas and Sixties It girl Lady Mary-Gaye Curzon - who once posed semi naked, streaked in engine oil, for a coffee table book called Birds of Britain in homage to her racing driver grandfather Francis, the 5th Earl Howe.

Lady Mary-Gaye - who also had a cocktail named after her at Claridge's and is heir to the Curzon banking fortune - has five children and has been married and divorced four times, providing Cressida with a large network of half siblings.

Cressida, reportedly named after the character in Shakespeare's Troilus And Cressida, is known as Cressy, Smalls or Smally because she is the youngest of Lady Mary-Gaye's extensive brood.

Her half-sister is Isabella Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe - once the object of the Duke of Cambridge's affection - who is now married to tycoon Sir Richard Branson's son Sam.

Cressida was born on February 18, 1989.

Her parents divorced when she was five and her mother went on to marry - and later divorce - old Etonian financier Christopher Shaw.

Free-spirited Cressida Bonas looked like she was set to become permanent fixture in Prince Harry's life, with the laid back couple sharing a love of partying, festivals and live music.

Following the split, it is now uncertain whether or not Cressida will attend.

A source close to the couple has tonight said the decision to split was "very amicable".

"It's very, very sad that they have decided to split," said the source.

" It's very amicable but they have decided to go their separate ways.'

They were pictured looking happy and relaxed together, showing no signs of strain on their relationship.

The couple were pictured on a string of dates at the beginning of this year and enjoying a cosy Valentine's Day together.

They even shared a kiss in front of photographers and crowds at WE Day in Wembley Arena in March and two days later were pictured watching the rugby at Twickenham.

It is not known whether the couple's split is permanent or a temporary break, in the same way Prince William and Kate split before eventually reconciling and going on to marry.

The couple had been dating for two years.
