Brazil 1-7 Germany: Live reaction to the biggest World Cup semi-final defeat EVER

A nation is reeling from the biggest ever World Cup semi final defeat, while Louis van Gaal's men get ready for a showdown with Messi and co for a place in the final

Twitter have revealed that there were over 35million tweets about the game last night, making it the most commented-on sports match OF ALL TIME.
Yeah, that's pretty big.
We've filtered through all of them (well, some of them) to find the funniest, pithiest analysis of the Neymargeddon as it unfolded on social media.

Jose Mourinho has insisted David Luiz should not be the lone scapegoat for Brazil's defensive horror show.
Skipper Luiz is shouldering the bulk of criticism for the amazing collapse in discipline that resulted in the World Cup hosts exiting in shame after a 1-7 defeat to Germany on Tuesday night.
The former Chelsea man was caught marauding up the field, missing key tackles and failing to mark German attackers during a historic crash by Phil Scolari's side.
He later apologised to his nation in a tearful interview, begging forgiveness and admitting the performance had shamed his side, who critics always feared were driven to the semi finals on a wave of emotion, rather than flair.
Chelsea boss Mourinho, who managed to sell Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain for an astounding sum of £50million before the World Cup kicked off, says the entire Brazil team had a nightmare.

In a weird twist to last night, World Cup-winning captain Cafu was thrown out of the Brazil changing rooms by the CBF president in the wake of their 7-1 humiliation.
He also got called a "strange man" which seems both unfair and a little bizarre, but hey, it was an emotional night for everyone.

"The disgrace of all disgraces" - just one damning verdict from the Brazilian media last night.
You can read the best of last night's kneejerk reaction right here.
There are some incredible front pages too:

An "ashamed" Meia Hora says: "There is no front page... we'll be back tomorrow.
"And while you're reading this, Germany have scored again."

Analysis
It is perhaps the most damning thing you can say about this Brazil side that only a dream died last night.
It was a monumental defeat, a historic one for sure.
But when a brilliant Brazil side were eliminated from the 1982 World Cup they said it was the death of 'futebol arte'. The last attractive, flowing side produced by the Canarinha were mourned as such.
What will people think when they reflect on the current vintage?

Well then you, sir, are a weirdo. But you are in luck as we have loads.

Erm...yeah. So that actually happened.
Germany's 7-1 (SEVEN ONE) demolition of Brazil last night in the semi-final goes down as one of the most shocking results in World Cup history.
A whole nation was brought to their knees in six minutes of football as Toni Kroos and co smashed in three goals to make it 5-0 at half time.
FIVE NIL! Crazy time!
And there is a LOT of fallout from the game which we'll be bringing you this morning but first...
  • 'Worst day of my life' says big Phil Scolari. Hard to argue with that.
  • David Luiz can't hide the tears in post match chat
  • The match report. Avoid reading if you are Brazilian.
More to follow (much like the goals last night)...
