Buhari Absent, As Obasanjo Pleads For Nyako At Council of State Meeting

Former Military dictator, General Mohammadu Buhari stayed away from todays

Council of State Meeting as former President Olusegun Obasanjo made a
surprise appearance apparently to make case for embattled Governor Murtala
Nyako of Adamawa State.

The meeting was presided over by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan at the
Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Former President Obasanjo has not been at several Council of State
meetings due to the frosty relationship with President Jonathan. This will
be Obasanjo’s first meeting after writing his acerbic open letter to the
President.

Pointblanknews.com gathered that the appearance of former President
Obasanjo and Governor Nyako at the meeting is merely political. Nyako at
the meeting looked unruffled as he reached out to members of the meeting,
sharing jokes and shaking hands.

Sources told Pointblanknews.com that the former President and the
embattled Governor at the council of meeting is not unconnected with the
plot by the Adamawa House of Assembly to impeach Governor Nyako.

Nyako is currently under probe and facing impeachment by the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, led House of Assembly.

The source said Obasanjo is using the council of state meeting to reach
out to President Jonathan to persuade the Adamawa Assembly to rescind it
decision to impeach Governor Nyako.

Obasanjo was heavily instrumental to Nyako’s emergence as Governor of
Adamawa State. He considers the embattled Governor as a political son just
like Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State.

Vice President Namadi Sambo; President of the Senate, David Mark; Speaker
of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; former President
Obasanjo, former President Shehu Shagari and former Head of the Interim
National Government, Ernest Shonekan were at the meeting.

Others are former military Heads of State, Yakubu Gowon; Abdusalam
Abubakar and Ibrahim Babangida as well as some former Chief Justices of
Nigeria and state governors.

Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar and Service Chiefs are
also at the meeting.

Buhari is the only surviving former head of State who stayed away from the
meeting aimed at looking at the security situation in the country. No
official reason explained his absence as at the time of filling this
report.
