Emmy Awards 2014 WORST dressed: Lena Dunham leads in pink frills followed by Sarah Paulson and Katherine Heigel

She’s always been known for her rather adventurous sense of style.

But on Monday evening Lena Dunham took her love of outrageous dressing to another level as she arrived for the 2014 Emmy Awards.

As if that wasn’t quite unflattering enough, the currently bleach blonde actress teamed it with a pink shirt, ensuring she had candy floss chic down to a tee.

The night went from bad to worse though for Lena as the fan favourite, who was nominated for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy award for Girls for the third year running, lost out to Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Unfortunately it wasn’t just Lena who got it horribly wrong on the red carpet, she was closely followed by Sarah Paulson.

The actress looked like a bit of an American Horror Story herself as she also opted for far to much tulle.

However unlike Lena, who wisely left hers just for her skirt, Sarah’s entire dress was made up of the black and red polka dot material.

Coming in a close third came everyone’s least favourite star -  Katherine Heigl, whose Hollywood glamour look went slightly skewiff.

Katherine almost got it so right wearing a very pale peach coloured frock made from a satin, however the cummerbund style waist and collar detail left little to be desired.

Other leading lades who didn’t quite hit the mark included Mayim Bialik, Betsey Brandt and Julianna Marguilies.

Julianna, who was dressed in a black dress by Narcisco Rodriguez needn’t have worried though because she was awarded Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in The Good Wife. See, who needs a good frock when you can win prizes?
