Nurse Quarantined Over Ebola Flees To Enugu, Contacts 20 Persons


A nurse who had direct contact with Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American man that brought the Ebola disease to Nigeria, has fled from Lagos, where she was being quarantined to her hometown Enugu, Eastern Nigeria and it is estimated that she made physical contact with at least 20 persons, the Minister of information, Labaran Maku said Wednesday in Abuja.

Maku said the nurse, who may have been infected as well as all the persons she established physical contact with have been placed under surveillance with the help of health personnel in the Enugu State government.

So far, Nigeria has placed 189 persons under surveillance while 10 persons have so far been confirmed to have been infected by Ebola in the country. Of the 10 persons 3 are dead.

Over 1000 persons have been killed by the disease in West Africa while there are over 2000 cases in the region.

Nigeria said primary and secondary schools will remain on holidays until the disease is contained.
