Arsenal striker news, part 3
Arsene Wenger yesterday insisted that he will not be bullied into buying a striker... even after the Arsenal fans voiced their frustrations during his side's 1-1 draw at promoted Leicester.
Fed-up travelling supporters chanted: “Sign a f***ing striker” as Wenger's side wasted a host of chances.
He said: “The solution every time you don’t win is to buy somebody. We are out there, we try our best and you have to trust us to find the best possible solution.
“But every time you don’t win a game, you can’t think there is a miracle man out there who wins you the game. Why did Man City not win against Stoke [on Saturday]? They have plenty of strikers.
“Football is a team sport. And we can’t sell it - us and you - as just an individual sport.”
Wenger pulled a face when asked about reports Arsenal are interested in Sevilla's Colombian striker Carlos Bacca, while the club did not meet Loic Remy’s buy-out clause before he moved from QPR to Chelsea on Sunday.

Chelsea exodus?
Loic Remy's capture from QPR looks like the end of the summer arrivals at Chelsea but there could be a few exiting SW6 by the close of business.
One man who seems certain to leave is Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel, whose Blues career never took off after his cruciate ligament injury last September. He is poised to agree a loan move to AC Milan.
Another potential departure is striker Patrick Bamford, who has impressed in loan spells at MK Done and Derby. Middlesbrough looks like his next short-term destination.
But the big question is whether Petr Cech will still be in the Chelsea squad list by close of business. The Czech keeper admitted in pre-season that he did not want to sit on the bench after a decade as first choice.
That, though, is exactly what he faces after Jose Mourinho plumped for Thibaut Courtois as his No 1. French giants PSG or Monaco could make a loan move.

Arsenal striker news, part 2
Arsenal have explored the possibility of signing Colombian superstar Radamel Falcao.
The Monaco striker is being hawked around in a remarkable £18m one-year loan deal.
That would cost £10m in wages and an £8m fee and it is believed the 28-year-old wants to go out on loan rather than make a permanent switch.
Arsenal have been sounded out but the deal is very complex and Manchester City remain favourites to land Falcao. City need to offload Alvaro Negredo with Valencia keen while Real Madrid look set to sign Javier Hernandez from Manchester United.
Falcao suffered a serious knee injury last season and it would be something of a gamble on his fitness.

Arsenal defender Ignasi Miquel is set to join Norwich after completing a medical.
The Spanish defender, 21, has seen his move to Carrow Road get held up until Arsenal got another centre half in.
But they appear to be ready to let Miquel go even if they don't make a signing. Who on earth will play at centre half in the League Cup?

Crystal Palace update ahoy!
Crystal Palace look set to be the busiest Premier League club on deadline day with up to four or five new faces joining the Eagles.
Deals for Tottenham full-back Zeki Fryers and Wigan midfielder James McArthur are close to being completed this morning.
The latter is likely to be a part-exchange move, with Uwe Rosler reluctant to leave his squad short ahead of a gruelling Championship promotion campaign.
New boss Neil Warnock is also targeting a centre-back and a striker, with Ipswich youngster Tyrone Mings and Norwich's Gary Hooper the most likely arrivals.
Hooper's signing is tied up with QPR's pursuit of Jermain Defoe, and will also have a knock-on effect on the future of Glenn Murray, with Ipswich, Nottingham Forest and Reading all willing to meet Palace's asking price of just over £1million.
Adlene Guediora, Owen Garvan, Peter Ramage, Jimmy Kebe and Adlene Guediora could all join Murray in leaving Selhurst Park, but are more likely to seek loan moves after the deadline.

It's still early doors, but we're already seeing quite a few instances of this: grown men gurning behind Sky Sports News reporters outside football grounds.

Over the Finnish line
Harry Redknapp is gearing up to be the busiest manager on transfer deadline day, and Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon isn't his only target.
The Queens Park Rangers boss Redknapp is also in for Ajax's Finnish striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson as a replacement for Loic Remy, who was sold to Chelsea on Sunday.
Sigthorsson, 24, is a long-term target for Rangers, who have put the ground work in since last season and are confident of doing a £5million deal.

Arsenal striker news, part 1
Portuguese giants Benfica have made a fresh enquiry for Arsenal's Costa Rican forward Joel Campbell.
They are prepared to pay a £600,000 loan fee or £10m to make it a permanent switch. But Arsenal have told them it's a no-go - unless they get a striker in.
Intriguingly, Arsenal are believed to have offered Campbell in a player-plus-cash deal for QPR striker Loic Remy. They made a phone call on Remy but QPR clearly didn't fancy Campbell and so the buy-out clause wasn't activated and Chelsea got their man.

Lennon to QPR deets
Aaron Lennon will become a deadline-day signing for former boss Harry Redknapp at QPR.
The Spurs winger has found playing time limited under Mauricio Pochettino's reign at White Hart Lane and has opted for a move away  after nine years in North London.
Lennon will earn £65,000 per week at Loftus Road, rising to £80,000 should the Hoops remain in the Premier League next season.

Pards - It's been a success
Alan Pardew claims the transfer window will have been a success even if Newcastle don't spend today.
Many fans beg to differ believing the club is in desperate need of a goal scorer and a central defender.
Alexandre Lacazette, the Lyon forward, is United's top target, but a fresh bid over the weekend was rejected.
Defender Mapou Yanga Mbiwa is likely to be loaned out to Roma or Marseille, after an unsuccessful season. There are doubts over his aerial ability in the Premier League.
The future of Hatem Ben Arfa remains in the balance, with him frozen out of the first team. Newcastle would love to cash in, but no clubs in France are matching his wages, and the player wants to stay and hope for a change of manager.

Jack Cork will stay at Southampton after Crystal Palace had a last minute £6m bid turned down.
Cork is in the final year of his contract but Saints are ready to risk him leaving for free rather than selling now.
The 25-year-old midfielder joined Southampton from Chelsea in 2011 and has been a permanent fixture throughout the Saints' time in the Premier League.
Palace boss Neil Warnock is eager to strengthen his side before the transfer window slams shut tonight.

Deals imminent
Sunderland will confirm two deals this morning.
Striker Ricky Alvarez will join on loan from Inter for the season. The deal will include a clause to buy him next summer for £8.5million if he's a hit in the left sided attacking role.
Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates will also bolster Gus Poyet's squad by joining from Liverpool on loan. The central defender has six Premier League appearances to his name and Brendan Rodgers wants him to gain experience in the top flight.
Sunderland will keep their eye out for more loan deals as the day progresses, but they are also looking to lighten their wage bill to free up cash for one last signing.
Top of the list to cull from the squad are Modibo Diakite, who could have his contract cancelled, Cabral, and Danny Graham.

Arsenal round-up
Let's take a look at who Arsenal are being linked with this morning.
While we've already mentioned the club's search for a striker - and a link to Radamel Falcao - but what about the holding midfielder hunt?
One man who doesn't look to be moving to the Emirates is William Carvalho, according to our round-up this morning.
So who should Arsene Wenger be targeting instead?

Jermain target for QPR
As revealed by our man Darren Lewis in this morning's Daily Mirror, Jermain Defoe could be set for a swift return to the Premier League at QPR.
The striker has only been at Toronto for five months, but Harry Redknapp is keen to replace Loic Remy - who moved to Chelsea yesterday - and wants Defoe to be the man.
Defoe, currently in England, is aware of the interest from the Hoops - and has been for several days, as contact was made with his camp before Remy’s move to Stamford Bridge.

Gossip round-up
Here's the one you've been waiting for - our transfer gossip round-up, featuring all the latest news and rumours.
And it leads on Manchester United being interested in a £25million move for Kevin Strootman.
Louis van Gaal is keen to add to his squad with only hours remaining, with several set to leave.
But who else is being linked to Old Trafford and elsewhere?

One to look out for
Rio Ferdinand has been warming up the crowd on Twitter, already.
"Is CR7 coming back home?" asks one very hopeful fan. "We spoke about him coming to Loftus Road," responded Rio, "...to watch a game!"
And the one to keep an eye on is Harry Redknapp speaking out of a car window.
It's only a matter of time.

Falcao about that?
Manchester City could pull off a stunning transfer deadline day deal for Monaco's £50million-rated striker Radamel Falcao.
Champions City's hopes of landing the Colombia striker rest on whether they can agree a deal with Valencia to striker Alvaro Negredo back to Spain after just one season at the Etihad Stadium.
Valencia want Negredo – who is currently injured - but it is understood the Spanish club want to take the striker on loan, with an option to buy the £18m-rated player at the end of that agreement.
City need to sell Negredo to fund any move for Falcao, as they remain under strict spending restrictions this summer having fallen foul of UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules.
6:32 am
We've been here before, haven't we?
And let's start with Arsenal and Arsene Wenger who, after yesterday's draw with Leicester, is again under pressure to spend some money.
Olivier Giroud is out until the new year and Theo Walcott isn't quite ready, leaving Yaya Sanogo as the club's only recognised striker.
They have plenty of strikers."
To help Arsene out, we've compiled seven he could look to bring in. We hope it helps.
Or maybe....

Here we go....
Greatest of mornings to you and, in the words of Europe, it’s the final countdown!
What are the chances that the Swedish rockers were actually singing about Transfer Deadline Day? I’d say they're quite high, but I might just be biased.
So here we are, it all comes down to this. When the clock strikes 11.00pm and the dust has settled, only the brave will still be standing, that will be all she wrote and the fat lady will have belted out one hell of a closing number - until January 1, at least.
What did you ask for this Deadline Day? A new player or two for your club of choice? That would be just shiny. But if anything’s for sure, it’s that no-one really knows what to expect on this most hallowed of days.
So strap in for what promises to be quite a ride as we bring you the climax to the transfer window!
