Awkward? Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston hit the Critics' Choice Awards red carpet

The Hollywood beauties both attended last night's awards bash - the first event they've been together at since the Annual Academy Awards in 2009

The pair just missed each other on the red carpet

Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston were minutes from a potentially awkward encounter at last night's 20th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards.

It's the first awards bash the Hollywood heavyweights have attended since the 81st Annual Academy Awards in 2009.

45-year-old Jen, who split from Brad in 2005, reportedly walked the red carpet at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles first before Angelina then greeted press and fans, presumably planned.

Both ladies looked a picture of poise as they posed for snappers, with Jen opting for a smart red trouser suit with a very daring neckline, which showed off plenty of cleavage and a gorgeous gold necklace.

Meanwhile Angelina, who was nominated for Best Director for Unbroken, was showing off her lithe figure in a clinging silk floor-length Versace gown with wrap-around front.

The actress teamed the winning look with a head of luscious bouncy curls and a brilliant smile.

While Jen was joined by her handsome fiance Justin Theroux, Brad was nowhere to be seen.

On the night, the big winners included Boyhood which scooped Best Picture and Best Director, while Birdman scooped a whopping seven wins, including three for Michael Keaton who won Best Actor, Best Comedy Actor and Best Acting Ensemble.

Elsewhere, Julianne Moore won Best Actress for Alice Still and other films praised during the evening included The Grand Budapest Hotel which won Best Comedy, and Guardians of the Galaxy which was crowned Best Action Movie.
