Ribadu’s Emergence As Guber Candidate May Cost PDP Adamawa State – Sen. Girei

A member of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation, Senator Abubakar Halilu Girei, has faulted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Adamu Muazu and President Goodluck Jonathan over their handling of the crisis currently rocking the Adamawa State chapter of party, warning that PDP may lose the state in the forthcoming general elections.

Speaking to journalists in Yola, the Adamwa State capital, Girei called on President Jonathan to personally lead the reconciliation efforts to bring aggrieved members back to the fold, saying the governorship candidate of the party, Nuhu Ribadu, lacks what it takes to solve the problem.

The emergence of Ribadu as the PDP guber candidate has torn the local chapter of the party apart with no fewer than four of his opponents and other stakeholders rejecting his nomination as an imposition.

Girei recalled that in 2007, when similar crisis erupted after the imposition of former governor, Murtala Nyako, then President Umaru Yar’Adua and Jonathan, held meetings with the aggrieved aspirants after which the problem was addressed.

“Adamawa people are angry because there was no primary election at all and the president and the party have not done enough to address the situation despite promises. Unless something urgent is done, the PDP does not stand any chance of winning election in Adamawa”, he said.
