Why MEND Supports Buhari, by Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan today in Lagos gave an insight into why Movement for Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) endorsed his political rival, All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari.

MEND had a few days ago endorsed Buhari’s candidacy for the upcoming presidential election, and urged Nigerians to vote out Jonathan, the PDP candidate.

But speaking today at the flag-off of his presidential campaign, President Jonathan said there was no way a criminal organization like MEND would have supported his re-election bid having failed to assassinate him.

“On October 1, 2010 some enemies recruited MEND to try to assassinate me. Their plan was to kill me. A few days ago, some newspapers wrote, ‘MEND Endorses Buhari’. Of course, there is no how a criminal organization that wanted me dead turn around to support me,” argued Jonathan.

A fired-up Jonathan advised thousands of PDP faithful not to be bothered by what he described as the antics of the opposition APC candidate, Buhari.

“The founder of MEND, Henry Okah is serving a long sentence in a prison in South African. It is not a Nigerian prison, so I could not have had a hand in sentencing him.

“So, if a criminal organization is supporting a particular presidential candidate, then you Nigerians should make up your minds on if this is the type of person you want to lead you,” declared Jonathan.
