The annual transfer speculation surrounding Juventus star Paul Pogba has returned, with the latest rumours suggesting former club Manchester United have lodged an offer for the midfielder.

The Mirror's Steve Bates reported on Sunday that "Juan Mata has been offered to Juventus in a bid by Manchester United to land £100 million-rated [Pogba]."
The Telegraph's James Ducker reported on June 25 that Pogba is "in talks" with United regarding a possible transfer and added, "any deal would have to surpass the £85.3 million Real paid Tottenham Hotspur for Gareth Bale in 2013 and could even see Pogba become the world’s first £100 million footballer, once add-ons and agent fees are factored in."

ESPN FC's Miguel Delaney reported on June 9 that Manchester United "have made contact" over a deal for Pogba, having spoken to Juventus and the player's agent. Delaney's sources said manager Jose Mourinho is "increasingly enthusiastic about the idea of buying Pogba."

On Sunday, the Sun's Mike McGrath, citing a source within United, reported “Jose has made it clear he wants to work with 22 key players. It means up to eight players heading out.” McGrath noted this is to fund the anticipated £100 million asking price for Pogba.

According to the Sun on June 2 (via Goal's Peter McVitie), Mourinho had given the green light for a £60 million offer.

Per the report, the initial worth of the offer is £48 million, with £12 million to be added based on performance bonuses and the number of appearances the 23-year-old makes.

Pogba Attracting Plenty of Suitors as Transfer Window Approaches

Pogba played for the Red Devils before joining Juventus on a free transfer in 2012 after he didn't receive the chances he felt he deserved at Old Trafford. In Turin, he has developed into one of the world's best central midfielders, and transfer speculation surrounding his future never seems to go away.

The France international has been linked with just about every top club, with Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane recently saying every single team would want to add him, per Goal's Tom Webber.

Juventus remain adamant he won't be sold, however, and Pogba has played down suggestions he will be leaving the Old Lady anytime soon. Plenty of pundits, including ESPN FC's David Amoyal, don't think he'll move during the summer.

United would be an unlikely destination given Pogba's past experiences at Old Trafford and the team's lack of success in recent years, but the arrival of Mourinho will make Old Trafford more attractive to international stars. The reported offer of £60 million seems exceptionally low, however. If Juventus sell their most prized asset, it will be for a world-record fee and no less.
