Senate justifies Buhari’s exclusion of 4 states in ambassadorial nomination

Senate yesterday justified the exclusion of persons from Bayelsa, Plateau, Ondo and Ebonyi states in the list of 47 ambassadorial nominees sent to it by President Muhammadu Buhari for confirmation.

Recall that senate had on receipt of Buhari’s first batch of 47 Career Ambassadorial nominees a couple of weeks ago been inundated with protests from states excluded from the list leading to a petition by one of its ranking member, Senator Emmanuel Paulker (PDP-Bayelsan Central) who queried the non inclusion of Bayelsan indigenes in the list.

Senator Paulker had specifically came under Order 43 of Senate Rules, faulting the non inclusion of Bayelsan indigenes in the presentation of career Ambassadorial nominees by President Buhari to the Senate for screening and confirmation.



The upper chamber had in its wisdom directed its committee on Foreign Affairs to carry out a thorough investigation on the alleged irregularities and lob-sidedness in the selection of the 47 career ambassadorial nominees sent to it by the president and report back to it.

Presenting the report at plenary yesterday,Deputy Chairman Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Shehu Sani (APC), Kaduna Central Senatorial District revealed that the process of nominating career Ambassadors by President Buhari was duly taken into consideration, pointing that the affected States actually did not meet with the criteria.
