Arsenal prepare offer for James Rodriguez after missing out on Leicester's Riyad Mahrez

ARSENAL have set their sights on Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez, according to reports.

Rodriguez is not part of Zinedine Zidane’s plans at the Bernabeu and has fallen further down the pecking order following the emergence of Marco Asensio.

The 20-year-old impressed in pre season and Spanish newspaper Marca claimed last week Asensio would be the final nail in the coffin for Rodriguez.

According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport Arsenal are prepared to offer the Colombia international an escape route.

And the report says Arsene Wenger has turned to Rodriguez after missing out on Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez.

The Gunners have a good working relationship with Real following the £42.5million deal for Mesut Ozil in 2013 and Wenger has said this month money is not an issue for the club.

“The money is never a problem if you have to pay what is requested,” Wenger said.

However, Gazzetta say a deal for Rodriguez is not a foregone conclusion due to the north London club’s poor record in the transfer market this summer.

Wenger has already missed out on Leicester pair Jamie Vardy and Mahrez and is struggling to get deals over the line for Alexandre Lacazette and Skkodran Mustafa
