Mariah Carey to Guest Star on ‘Empire’ This Season

Mariah Carey is set to guest star on Fox’s hit musical drama “Empire” this season, the network announced Monday during its TCA Summer Press Tour panel.
The music icon will appear on the Oct. 5 episode, in which she will play Kitty, a mega-superstar who comes to Empire to collaborate with Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) on an explosive new song. When the duet encounters obstacles, Kitty helps Jamal dig deep to overcome personal difficulties and reach a musical breakthrough.
“Empire” Season 3 premieres on Sept. 21. Previously announced guest stars this season include Taye Diggs, Sierra McClain, rapper French Montana and music mogul Birdman, who plays himself.
Carey’s previous acting credits include “Glitter,” “Ally McBeal” and “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan,” in which she appeared as herself. More notably, the singer was previously cast by “Empire” co-creator Lee Daniels in films “Precious” and “Lee Daniels‘ The Butler.”
Currently, Carey is about to begin the second half of her Las Vegas residency, “Mariah #1 to Infinity,” which starts at Caesars Palace later this month. She’ll head south of the border this fall to bring her “Sweet Sweet Fantasy” tour to fans in Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Brazil.
Carey will also launch her own reality series, “Mariah’s World,” on E! this December.
