Suspected Militants kill JTF members in Bayelsa

Militants have again attacked a crude oil pipeline in the restive Niger Delta region.

Suspected Militants have killed three Joint Task Force Members in Nembe, Bayelsa State, Southern Nigeria.

The JTF members were attached to Operation Delta Safe, a joint military force responsible dealing with security threats by militant groups in the Niger Delta.

Reports say the suspected militants ambushed the JTF members the Nembe waterway checkpoint.

The suspected militants opened fire on the officers and stole two gunboats belonging to the officers.

Attacks by militant groups in the Niger Delta had pushed crude production in Nigeria to 30-year lows in recent weeks.
The militants have called for a greater share of Nigeria’s oil wealth – which accounts for around 70 percent of national income – to be passed on to the region’s communities, and for authorities to clean up areas blighted by oil spills.
