Oklahoma man accused of killing Lebanese neighbor after years of racist torment
An Oklahoma man is accused of killing his Lebanese neighbor after tormenting his family for years and calling them “dirty Arabs.”
Vernon Majors faces murder charges for the shooting of Khalid Jabara, 37, on Friday night, minutes after police had left the victim’s home in Tulsa.
The Jabara family says that they have been targeted for years by their 61-year-old neighbor, who would called them “filthy Lebanese” and “Aye-rabs” as well as insulting Hispanic neighbors.
Majors faces a trial on assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly running over Khalid’s mother Haifa Jabara with his car in September.
He bonded out of jail in May despite opposition from prosecutors, with what the Jabara family says was “No ankle monitor, no drug/alcohol testing, nothing.”
Both Haifa and Khalid Jabara had protective orders against Majors, according to KOKI.
Vernon Majors, 61, is also accused of trying to kill Jabara's mother with his car last year.

Police were called early Friday evening after the Khalid Jabara learned that their tormentor had acquired a gun.
However, the Jabaras said in a Monday statement that “the police came and told him there was nothing to be done.”
“Minutes later, the suspect murdered our brother with four shots,” Victoria Jabara Williams posted on Facebook.
Her family says that Friday’s killing could have been prevented, and that is is especially troubling that Majors was released to live near them “given the current climate of our country and the increase nationally in cases of hate crimes.”
Majors is currently in Tulsa County jail and is being held without bond.
