Chelsea return for pre-season training with John Terry and his team-mates ready to go ahead of the Antonio Conte era

 
Chelsea players underwent initial tests at their Cobham base on Monday

The tests were followed by an afternoon session on the practice pitches

Antonio Conte was expected to attend on his first official day with the club

Chelsea returned to their Cobham training base for the first day of pre-season training on Monday.

Club captain John Terry posted a photo of himself and a number of Chelsea stars to his Instagram account to celebrate the start of the new Antonio Conte era at the Stamford Bridge club.Terry highlighted the presence of a number of players in his post to the social media website, including returning player Victor Moses, who spent last season on loan with West Ham. Young players Kenedy, Bertrand Traore and Baba Rahman were also back in training.




The group had breakfast at 9am in the morning before undergoing initial tests to check their fitness upon returning from their summer break. After lunch, they went out to the practice fields at Cobham for their first session of pre-season.


New manager Conte was expected to be in attendance at the training ground to oversee preparations for the new Premier League season.


Conte impressed as manager of Italy during Euro 2016, taking a questionable side to the quarter-final stage of the competition.


The former Juventus manager will be expected to improve upon Chelsea's difficult campaign last time out.








Despite being defending champions, Chelsea struggled for form and manager Jose Mourinho was sacked in December 2015 after losing nine of his 15 games.


They improved slightly under Dutch manager Guus Hiddink, but never truly put form together and ultimately finished in 10th in the Premier League.


Conte has already made significant moves in the transfer market to improve his squad. Chelsea have signed Belgium international Michy Batshuayi for £33million, and they continue to chase his compatriot Radja Nainggolan .
