The 'Viking chant' actually originated in Scotland from Motherwell fans

After their place in the final of Euro 2016 was sealed by the referee's final whistle, France decided to celebrate their victory over Germany with the 'Viking clap' made famous by Iceland.

Following Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann's impressive brace, the post match scenes were incredible as France's players and fans joined to perform the chant in Marseille's Stade Velodrome.

The intimidating clap and deep chants performed by all those involved with Iceland after victories in Euro 2016 has been likened to a Viking war chant, and have seemingly inspired others as Les Bleus were next to try it.

Fans willfully mirrored the celebration, where every clap is followed by a loud, hearty chant of 'huh'.

The claps themselves increase in speed before the celebration reaches its crescendo and both fans and players begin cheering loudly.

According to Icelandic publication Morgunbladid, who spoke to theIrish Times, the mighty clap originated in the Scottish Premier League.

France will now face Portugal in the final on July 10 at the Stade de France, where winning the trophy on home soil will be the thought on every players minds.

Former France striker Thierry Henry on BBC One: 'A sign of a great team is that you take advantage of mistakes. You punish a team. France did that. They were like an Italian or German side of old times. Two opportunities. Two goals.

'I am actually so emotional at the moment. It's nice to see that togetherness in the team, and with the fans. At the back they were great, Evra, Sagna, Umtiti. Everybody.

'The main man Griezmann, we all knew that he had to play this type of game. We again have a hero, a striker who can make us win tournaments. Hopefully. What a player.

'It will be a tricky game against Portugal but let's enjoy it. Final of the Champions League: Ronaldo v Griezmann. Final of the Euros: Ronaldo v Griezmann.'
