La Liga president Javier Tebas admits he fears Barcelona star Lionel Messi could seek a transfer away from the club after his tax trial.

The Argentine forward was found guilty of tax fraud, leading to speculation that Chelsea and Manchester City are waiting in the wings if he decides to quit the Nou Camp.

It has been claimed that Messi does not feel Barca have been supportive enough of him during the case, but Tebas sent a clear message that he does not believe the 29-year-old is guilty.

‘Of course I fear that (Messi) could leave,’ Tebas is quoted in the Daily Mail.

‘But the only thing I can tell him is that from La Liga we believe he isn’t guilty and that he should stay in Spanish football. I don’t think Leo Messi is a delinquent.’

Messi has spent his entire career so far with Barcelona, and has firmly established himself as likely the best player in their history with 453 goals for the club and 28 major trophy wins.
