Juan Mata scored Man Utd's first Premier League goal under Jose Mourinho and Twitter loved it


It was just inevitable that Juan Mata would score the first goal of the Jose Mourinho era at Manchester United, wasn’t it?
It all came from a horrible backpass from Bournemouth’s Simon Francis during their opening match of the season, which Artur Boruc almost dealt with before Mata was presented with a simple tap-in to put United 1-0 up.

Mourinho and Mata, of course, have bucketloads of backstory.
The Portuguese sold Mata to United when he was Chelsea boss, and last week served him the indignity of being a substitute who got subbed off in the Community Shield.

Mostly though, people were just happy for Mata, one of the Premier League’s more popular players.

Mata was, of course, substituted with about 15 minutes to go and United leading 3-1 – but we’re guessing he was a little happier with the situation than he was last week.
