Lecturer caught pants down with female student

A lecturer in the Department of Education of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, (name withheld) is now cooling off at the police station in the university town over alleged sexual harassment of a female student.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim who confirmed the arrest in Asaba, paraded 36 other suspects arrested by the command for various crimes including kidnapping, robbery, car snatching, human trafficking, defilement and pipeline vandalism.

CP Zanna said the sexually harassed victim told investigators that the said lecturer is her course adviser who has been harassing her sexually.

According to him, she said the lecturer threatened that if she refused to yield to his sexual “demands he would make her carry over some of her courses,” adding that during “Maths examination she told the suspect that she had accepted her proposal, but before then she had reported the matter to the police station at Abraka.

“Based on the complainant’s feigned acceptance of the suspect’s demand she was taken to Wembley Hotel, Abraka where detectives were invited and arrested him in the hotel room after he had already undressed.”

Zanna who said the matter was still under investigation, paraded two suspected human traffickers including a fake nurse and a fake lawyer, among 36 suspects paraded.

He said three heavily pregnant ladies were rescued from the traffickers’ base along Okpanam road in Asaba, noting that the rescued victims confessed that they were taken to the hideout by the fake nurse, who claimed to be working at a hospital in Nkpor, Anambra State.

According to the police boss, the trafficked victims further confessed that the fake nurse told them that their babies would be sold after delivery.

Zanna said acting on a tip-off, operatives of Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Asaba mounted intensive surveillance before finally arresting the fake nurse and the fake lawyer, who allegedly perfected the documents to secure the hideout where trafficked victims are harboured.

He said the suspects were helping his men with investigation, adding that they will be soon be charged to court.

Giving the command’s scorecard in the last one month, CP Zanna noted that 36 suspects were arrested while three were killed just as three trafficked victims were rescued, and three stolen vehicles recovered.

He said 31 live ammunition, two rifles, five locally made guns, four live cartridges and five expended cartridges were recovered from suspects during the period under review.

He said the achievements were made possible “through our collaboration with sister security agencies, vigilante groups and well meaning people of the state. We shall maintain the tempo and appreciate the continuous suspect of members of the public in order to drastically checkmate criminal activities in all parts of the state.”
