Apple Should 'Stop Acting Like Steve' And Buy Tidal: Kanye West

Kanye West has called on Apple and Tidal to discuss the latter’s sale

International hip-hop artist Kanye West, who is well known for dishing out opinions on anything and everything remotely relevant in the media, is once again raising his voice. This time around, the eccentric celebrity is telling Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) to purchase fellow rapper Jay Z’s music streaming service, Tidal.

In a tirade of Tweets, Kanye West supposedly asked both companies to settle their ‘beef’ once and for all. West called on the management teams from both companies to come together and negotiate the terms and conditions of an acquisition deal. Kanye West listed Beats cofounder Jimmy Iovine, Apple Music’s Larry Jackson, and Jay Z among the executives who want to meet each other. Interestingly enough for some bizarre reasons, Kanye also added another hip-hop celebrity Drake and Spotify CEO Daniel Ek into the equation.

“We all gon [sic] be dead in 100 Years. Let the kids have the music," one of West’s Tweets read. He added that Apple should ‘stop acting like Steve’ and just agree on a price with Tidal. Apple had been reportedly considering the purchase of Tidal earlier in June in order to get its hands on exclusive content, but the company couldn’t agree on a price.

Tidal made its debut in 2015 and quickly rose to sign high profile pop artists including Kanye West himself, Alicia Keys, Chris Martin, French electronic music duo Daft Punk, Madonna, Rihanna, along with several others through giving them minority ownership stake. Many of such artists have already begun to release exclusive content on the service. Kanye West has stressed fans to sign up on the service since the roll out of his album ‘Life of Pablo’.

Tidal has yet to go big in terms of overall user base. At present, the company has only 3 million paid users as opposed to Apple Music, which currently caters to 15 million users, and Spotify, which has a user base of 30 million subscribers.
