Twitter erupted with fury after Christina wasn't honored in anyway despite the Fox show naming her in tweets ahead of the telecast
Fans of Christina Grimmie have taken to Twitter to express their outrage after the slain singer wasn't mentioned once during Sunday night's Teen Choice Awards — even though there was a special segment dedicated to ending gun violence.
The 22-year-old Voice singer, who was shot and killed as she signed autographs after a show in Orlando, Florida, in June, won a posthumous award for Choice Web Star: Music.
During the awards ceremony, host Jessica Alba had victims of gun violence from Newtown, Dallas, Aurora and Orlando take the stage, but despite her win and tragic death, Christina wasn't referenced.
Two weeks ahead of the show, the Teen Choice Awards tweeted a GIF of the young artist, writing: '@TheRealGrimmie lives on through her music. Retweet in honor of her memory for #ChoiceMusicWebStar. #Teen Choice.'
Many accused of Fox of exploiting Christina's death by nominating her and encouraging fans on Twitter to share its tweets honoring her just to promote the show.
However, fans grew even angrier after the awards show failed to mention her even once throughout the star-studded telecast.
'So the TCA's essentially nominated Christina Grimmie after her death for promo and never even mentioned her name on air? Gross and corrupt,' a Twitter user named Liz wrote.
'Geez, if you're gonna use Christina Grimmie to get views, you could at least be bothered to mention her,' another Twitter user known as SkyWaterfire added.
And a person named Amanda blasted the Fox show, tweeting: '#TeenChoice so you use Christina Grimmie to get views but you don't say a freaking thing about her? Disgusting.'
While Jessica led a moving to tribute to victims of gun violence during her emotional speech, many said it was 'disgusting' Christina wasn't mentioned.
Family members of shooting victims stood in unity with Jessica including Alton Sterling's son Cameron, whose father was killed while selling CDs out of a store in Baton Rouge.
After Jessica's call for peace, singer Ne-Yo paid tribute to the victims of gun violence with a rendition of Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On'.
Christina was shot twice in the head and chest by Kevin Loibl on June 10 after she performed at a concert in Orlando. Her assailant shot and killed himself after being tackled by her brother Marcus.
'Man, this is so unfair @TheRealGrimmie is never mentioned in @JessicaAlba's anti-gun violence tribute in #TeenChoice,' Grace Ong Chu Wen wrote.
'Christina Grimmie, a victim of gun violence, did not get one mention at the TCAs after being exploited for views and tweets,' a woman named Alisa pointed out.
Meanwhile, Lauren Cross tweeted: 'They didn't even honor her or anything. No memorial. The people behind this show are literally sick freaks.'
Miranda Friel added: 'It's sad that Christina Grimmie won her first TCA and they didn't even honor her on the show after using her for promo.'
And Sarah Brown added that Christina 'deserves better than that.'
However, YouTube star Shane Dawson tweeted that he was glad she wasn't named after he slammed the Teen Choice Awards on Twitter last month for its 'disgusting' tweet urging fans to vote in her memory.
'Please don’t use Christina to promote your fake a** award show,' he wrote.

After last night's telecast, he pointed how that he is 'glad' the show didn't do a memorial for her.
'I don't want her beautiful face anywhere near that trash show,' he tweeted.
Meanwhile, fellow YouTuber Meg DeAngelis, who attended the show in California, wrote that she is 'extremely disappointed by the fact that the TCA's didn't honor Christina Grimmie in any way.'
'RIP Angel,' she added.
And a Twitter user known as A Frandly Reminder asked fans to look at the positive.
'In the end, @TheRealGrimmie got the biggest awards ever... millions of loyal [friends] fighting for her honor #ChristinaGrimmieDefenseSquad,' the person wrote.
