Niger State Governor, Abubakar-Bello!

The Governor of Niger state, Abubakar Sani Bello, on Monday sacked the Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Umar Danyaya.

He has been immediately replaced by Alhaji Ibrahim Isa Ladan from Borgu local government area.

Ladan was a one-time member of the Federal Character Commission and was one-time chairman Borgu local government Area.

Details about the sack is still sketchy but Punch learnt that the former government secretary reported for duty on Monday morning before being invited to the office of the governor for a meeting that lasted for 30 minutes.

It was after the meeting with the governor that instruction was given for his sack.

The Commissioner for Information and culture Mr. Jonathan Vatsa confirmed the story in a statement made available to journalists, saying the new SSG has ‘since been inaugurated’.

Vatsa did not give any reason why the former SSG was sacked. He said Governor Bello had thanked Danyaya for his service to the state.

Danyaya who was appointed SSG on the assumption of duty by the governor in June 2015 has had the appointment criticised by some critical stakeholders in the state especially Senator David Umaru who described his choice as being against the zoning arrangement in the state.

Umaru asked Governor Bello to withdraw the appointment and ensure equitable sharing of political positions among the three geo-political zones in the state.
