Bradley Cooper And Lady Gaga Given The Go Ahead For 'A Star Is Born'
Bradley Cooper's directorial debut, 'A Star Is Born', has finally been given the go ahead by Warner Bros studios. The four-time Oscar nominated actor will also star in the upcoming musical epic alongside multi-million selling pop superstar Lady GaGa in her fourth major acting venture.
Lady Gaga to star in 'A Star Is Born'
This new edition of 'A Star Is Born' is the third re-make of the 1937 film starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. Judy Garland and James Mason starred in the 1954 version, and in 1976 it returned with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. It tells the story of an aspiring movie star and singer who becomes something of a protege (as well as a lover) to one of her heroes when she meets him. He's an established star, but his relevence in the industry is rapidly fading as his age and alcohol dependency catches up with him.
The film marks Bradley Cooper's first venture into directing, though he has worked as a producer on several films including 'American Sniper' and 'War Dogs'. He'll be on the production team for 'A Star Is Born' alongside Clint Eastwood, who was previously thought to be directing this re-make with Beyonce co-starring before things took a new turn.
'For those of us lucky enough to watch him work as an actor and producer, it has been clear that Bradley would make this transition to director', Greg Silverman, Warner Bros president of Creative Development, said in a statement to Deadline. 'We are honored that he is doing it, here, at his home-Warner Bros.-and with Lady Gaga as a collaborator and co-star. The world is in for a treat as these great artists craft an all new vision of A Star is Born.'
Lady Gaga has previously appeared in 'Machete Kills' and 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For', but also had a starring role in 'American Horror Story: Hotel' as The Countess for which she won a Golden Globe. Her song 'Til It Happens to You' which featured in the 2015 documentary 'The Hunting Ground' also earned her her first Oscar nomination. According to Deadline, Gaga is also working on the music for 'A Star Is Born'.
'A Star Is Born' is expected to be released in 2017.
