Saraki begs Attorney General to discontinue forgery charges

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has been alleged to have pleaded with the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami to drop forgery charges against him and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu,Saharareporters reports.

The senate president was said to have met privately with the AGF at the premises of the Senate when Malami, accompanied by Ita Enang, President Muhammadu Buhari’s special assistant on the National Assembly, arrived to see Senator David Umaru, head of the Senate committee on the judiciary.

A source at the Senate and another in the AGF’s office said that Saraki requested to see Malami after the AGF’s meeting with Senator Umaru.

The attorney general was said to have agreed to meet with Saraki in the presence of Ita Enang.

However, just before the meeting started, Saraki and Malami agreed that it should be private.

Saraki it was learnt pleaded with the attorney general not be part of those persecuting him, swearing that he knew nothing about the alleged forgery of Senate rules under which he was elected as Senate President.

This is coming few days after the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara revealed that the Senate may issue a warrant of arrest on the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami for refusing to appear before it according to News24.

He faulted Malami’s position that he’s not answerable to the Senate, saying that for the fact that the Senate confirmed his appointment, he had appeared several times before National Assembly committees.

He said the Senate could also withdraw the confirmation of Malami as minister, since it was the body that confirmed him.
