Zayn Malik blames aliens for leaving One Direction

Heartthrob Zayn Malik offered a bizarre answer in his latest explanation of why he left boy band One Direction and crushed millions of hearts.

"An alien spoke to me in a dream..." he told Glamour magazine when asked about the first time he realized he wanted to leave behind his boy band confinement.

The 23-year-old boy band defector trailed off, leaving the validity of the unusual story up in the air.

Still, whether it was a joke or not, the statement is nicer than some of the other reasons Malik has offered as to why he left the hit English band.

The newly minted solo artist has frequently blasted the group, going as far as to recently claim he was "free at last" from his 1D days.

He once admitted he wanted to quit his claim to fame from the first year and never really wanted to be a part of the gig.

The rebellious member reached superstardom as 1D released four hit albums after forming on "The X-Factor" in 2010.

He finally departed from the band in 2015 and quickly began work on his album "Mind of Mine" — as well as linking up with model Gigi Hadid
